Foggy Frankurt

Foggy Frankfurt

Click to view on black, it looks better!

New year, new me. I know I didn’t post that often last year but this year I am going to try really hard to get a shot or two up a week. If you don’t see something bug me for a post!

So the wife and I headed up to Frankfurt for New Year’s Eve. My goal was to see some fireworks and we got our wish. Instead of the city doing the fireworks show, all the people gather along the banks of the river Main and turn it into a war zone of sorts. You see the video of what it looked like here. Although not as intense, the fireworks start a lot earlier, about an hour before midnight and went on strong for an hour and a half past midnight.

Before the fireworks we wanted to take a walk and see the city. When we got to the river we went down and walked beside the river on a very snow and icy trail. After dodging many walkers, runners and geese we came to this spot where you see this picture above. It caught my eye because there was a fog and I liked how it looked with all the lights.

Thanks. Completely unexpected when we went up there. Yea, 5 shot DRI. The last one being a 30 second expsoure just to give you an idea of how dark it was. There are still some mistakes in this shot that bug me but I need to post more, even if there are things in my shots I don’t know how to fix yet.

Looks perfect to me, but I know how I get like that about my shots. What kind of stuff did you want to fix? I can write shorter tutorials on other stuff I do.

Well I sat for 10 minutes trying to level it. No matter which way I turned it, always felt something was crooked or leaning. The dust spots I fixed but I think I uploaded the wrong one and got rid of the right one. The most annoying thing was the once uploaded on Flickr, 8 bit jpg looks like crap around the top of the yellow cloud & spire. It has the choppy transition from light to dark. I can still sorta see it here. I tried all variations of uploading tiff, png and jpg. All of them do it. I’m going to let that stuff go and just try more and do more to learn more.

Ah, just select the move to, hit ctrl+a to select the entire shot, then go to edit>transform>skew and you can fix leaning buildings and stuff like that. I had to do it hardcore in the shot I just posted from inside the Roppongi Tower. Transform has other crazy options you can play with to change perspective and stuff like that, but skew is a pretty handy one for buildings.

I keep hearing people say Flickr ruins their shots, but somehow it doesn’t seem to alter mine that much. The actual conversion to 8 bit is definitely were I get pissed off from my lost detail. I am ready for the day when we all have 100GB OCS fiber straight to our computer and TIFFs are the standard image format for online viewing.

I meant to say select the “move tool.”

Oh I tried that in PS and I tried all the adjustments in LR3 as well. I think its just a mental thing that is messing w/ me making me feel its always off no matter what.

I am curios to see the WebP photo format would do.

Well one of those options will let you actually grab each building and pull it straight, it looks all messed up until you hit enter and the PS makes it look all natural.
